Why I Enjoy Anime

Lots of people don't take anime seriously. Even people I know just think it's all just mindless, unrealistic fighting. Well, today, I'm settling out to prove that anime is a true art form.

Animation can do many more things that live-action can't. Designs, color, and sets can do beautiful things in animation that would just look plain strange in real life. Animation can also have different worlds and unique places that would require noticable CGI in live-action. For example, let's take a look at Pixar. They have made many different worlds and stories that immerse the viewer in a whole different fashion. These include Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, and Toy Story to name a few. Now, that isn't to say that live-action can't immerse and entice the viewer as well. I actually love watching good live-action films as much as I love watching anime. However, the two do so in many different ways. In short, animation can bring stuff to the table that would just be out-of-place in live-action.

But sadly, the truth is most people over here in the U.S. think that animation is only made for kids, and the only type of adult animation that exists is mostly made up of comedy shows like Family Guy. Though that does sound like I have a bias, ask around and you'll see that a good amount of parents with kids in the U.S. think that animation can only be children's programs. However, in Japan they have the exact opposite viewpoint: Japanese animation can range from shows that a child could watch (ex: Pokemon) to shows with violence and maturity like Cowboy Bebop. Animation over there can be for many different age ranges.

Now here's the best part: anime mixes both the unique ability that all animation has with the fact that animation CAN have mature storylines suited for older audiences! Mature storylines told through animation are yet to be seen in prosperity in the United States. Wrapping up, you can see that anime combines the unique condition animation has with the fact that it can be mature. This makes one fantastic new art form that anyone can enjoy!
