“Will we ever be the way we were?” [Backspaces] “Watch any good movies lately?”

That is the sum of the experience of “Emily is Away:” hopelessly and unstoppably tragic.

In this extremely short (roughly 35 minutes) indie game, you play as, well, yourself, and are able to choose from a selection of responses when talking to a girl you like: Emily.

Despite being so short, it actually manages to land a powerful emotional blow on the player as they choose their sayings when interacting with the character Emily. In fact, Emily is the best part of this interactive game; while she can be frustrating to “talk to” at times, you can’t help but notice the little nuances in the way she speaks, which leads to some hints at what’s really going on.

8/10- All in all, although it has a fairly short play time, “Emily is Away” manages to be an interesting and particularly moving indie game.
